About the course

The Transition Certification Course is a comprehensive professional development program that focuses on the transition mandate of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its implications for developing the Individual Transition Plan. The course is divided into six asynchronous modules:

  1. Transition 101:

    A quick-start guide to IDEA’s transition mandate and the implications for developing compliant transition plans (1.5 hours)

  2. Transition Assessment:

    Legal guidelines and best practices related to age-appropriate transition assessment (2 hours)

  3. Transition Report Writing:

    A template and guide on how to write a transition assessment report that complies with state education codes and IDEA (1 hour)

  4. The ABCs of ITPs:

    A step-by-step guide on completing IEP forms related to transition (2 hours)

  5. The Collaborative Transition System:

    A step-by-step guide to developing, documenting and delivering transition services through a collaborative model (2 hours)

  6. The Transition Rubric:

    A Case Study: An in-depth analysis of a sample Individual Transition Plan using the “Transition Rubric” (1 hour)

Participants who want to purchase one PDU through TCSJ's Professional Learning Center must watch all six modules (9.5 hours) AND complete a case study assignment (6 hours).
